Babies Born to Older Dads May Have a Higher Risk of Health Problems
Just four decades ago,
only 4 percent of infants were born to fathers over the age of 40. Nowadays,
that number has crept up to 10 percent. This shift was seen across the United
States amongst different races, education levels, and locations.
Babies born to older
fathers, says that born babies will be more susceptible to health problems
including preterm birth, low birth weight, seizures and breathing problems. Many
of the health issues associated with “geriatric pregnancies,” such as low
infant birth weight, gestational diabetes, higher odds of preterm birth and
high blood pressure for the mother by which it affects the infant development
and it may also lead to compilations.
According to the recent
studies, they suggest that being a father later in life which leads to be
associated with higher risks in genetic abnormalities, offspring of autism and
mental problems. Children born to men aged 45 and over had a 14% greater risk
of premature birth, low birth weight and had a 10% higher risk of needing
breathing assistance and a 28% higher chance of being admitted to neonatal
intensive care when compared with babies who born to younger fathers. Further
assessment showed that once a dad hits age 35, there’s a slight increase in
birth risks overall. Women who is carrying the child of a man aged 55 years or
older have a 34 per cent higher odds of gestational diabetes.
After accounting for
things like the mother’s age and the parents’ health and demographic
information, the researchers noticed an association between paternal age and
likelihood of both child and maternal health problems. Significant associations
began to surface around age 45, and the data suggest that the older the father,
the higher the risks.

How parents can recognize Autism early?
Autism is a Neurodevelopmental condition which has
become more prevalent these days which includes impairments in social
interaction and developmental language and communication skills combined with
rigid, repetitive behaviors. It has been found that 1 in 68 children could have
a diagnosis of autism.
Signs
of Autism:
- Avoidance of eye contact
- Persistent preference for solitude
- Resistance to minor changes in routine or surroundings
- Restricted interests
- Difficulty understanding other people’s feelings
- Delayed language development
- Persistent repetition of words or phrases (echolalia)
- Repetitive behaviors (flapping, rocking, spinning, etc.)
Causes of Autism:
Most scientists have believed that it has caused mostly by genetic
factors. There is reason that genes play a major role in the development of
autism and it has been found that identical twins are more likely to both be
affected than twins who are fraternal (not genetically identical).
When a pregnant woman is in habituated intake of drugs or chemicals, her
child is more likely to be autistic. Research suggests that it may arise due to
the abnormalities in parts of the brain that interpret sensory input and
process language.
Autistic behavior is caused by:
- Tuberous sclerosis
- Encephalitis
- Rubella (German measles) in the pregnant mother
- Untreated phenylketonuria (PKU)
- Fragile X syndrome
Some of the potential causes of autism are
environmental toxins, pesticides and heavy metals such as mercury. Heavy metals
are certainly more commonly observed in the environment now than they were in
the past.
Treatment for Autism:
There are no “cures” for autism, but therapies and other treatment can
feel them to be better from their symptoms
Many treatment approaches involve therapies such as:
- Speech therapy
- Behavioral therapy
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Play therapy
Diet to be focused:
An autism diet may instead focus on whole
foods, such as:
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- Fish
- Lots of water
- Unsaturated fats
- Lean poultry
Some studies have suggested that diet can help to improve symptoms of
attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), a condition like autism.
